It’s not often that I re-watch a series – I’m too busy with work and family for a start! But True Detective was so awesome the first time around I just had to watch the whole thing again.

And I’m sure glad I did – there was a whole lot I missed.

A quick refresh if it’s been a while for you. This latest season of True Detective saw Arkansas detective Wayne Hays trying to get to the bottom of a cold case murder and a missing girl. I’m not even going to try and explain the ins and outs of what went on over the eight episodes – it’s a crazy mix of different timelines and complex plots, but it’s super satisfying in the end.

If you’re a fan of the first two seasons, you’ll know to expect the unexpected. It’s one of those shows where you’re thinking about it while you’re driving the kids to school – until you’re sure that you totally know who did it. And then the next episode blows your theory away.

Me and hubby Pete were pretty sure we knew what was happening when we sat down for the finale. But after eight gripping episodes, and a 78 minute finale, it still had the power to surprise us with an awesome ending.

For the final scene, Wayne walks off into the jungles of Vietnam: anyone know what was going on there? Not me. I’ve even seen one theory that says he was actually dead the whole time! Some people have complained that the ending wasn’t what they wanted – but for me that’s the best thing about this whole series.

I’m so ready for Season 4 – are you?
